What Is The Purpose Of My Office?

We have been in our new house almost a year and a half. I was so excited to buy the house because it meant I had my own office. I could gave my own space to put my own stuff in.

Today I’m frustrated. I have been frustrated for awhile. My office just isn’t functioning the way I thought it would. I thought it would fall into place because I had the space. Silly me.

Above is the corner that I am unhappy with. I have nowhere to set the writing projects or any projects I am working on. That’s probably why I have stuff on the living room coffee table yet.

I need to put some thought into this.

What is the purpose of my office? This is a question I’ve been asking myself off and on for the last couple of weeks. I think if I can figure out the purpose I’ll know what to put in the corner.

There are three things I want my office to be. I would like my office to:

1. be my writing sanctuary.

2. have a place to explore who I am creatively and get to know my creative self better.

3. To have a space to put my writing projects and other creative projects on so they aren’t all over the living room.

Right now my office is none of these things and that needs to change.

I’ll let you know how things go and show you pics at that time.

Have a great day!

  1. I get your dilemma. When we moved into this house with a dedicated home office room I had no idea what to do. Eventually the room took shape after I/we decided that I’d write and read in here. Nothing more, which sounds selfish, but that decision instantly clarified how to decorate this room. I look forward to your process.

  2. These days we want to multi-purpose our small space, too. I want an office, a library, a file room, everything. It looks like you have a special corner just for you. Brighten it up with color and art and things you love, and you’ll find your way to your writing world every day!

  3. I totally understand! When we lived in our last house, I had my office in a room upstairs and I felt exactly the same as you. It didn’t work. Now we live on the boat, I have a tiny area in the kitchen with very little room for anything, so decluttering was vital. I now love this office space – it works. Strange really.

  4. It does take time to get a place organised. You need a small table or a desk to get your laptop or the computer, so that you get do your work on it. You have to keep on shifting things around, until you face the side you are comfortable to work. You have to find out, If you like to be completely isolated or work with others around. You can take the stuff out or mover them aside and figure how and what goes where. Each of us have a different needs that we are comfortable. What about going through a magazine and get some fresh ideas. Maybe by now you would have figured it out also. Do not get stressed. Move away and think /imagine from another place – if that is the place and how, or if there is another place or a corner that might suit you better. Why not as one of your family members for their views also. Wishing you Best Luck with your office space. Many Blessings and Loving Hugs 🙂 ❤ 🙂
